Event-Driven Strategy

VNBTrust employs a Value-Based, Event-Driven investment strategy.  We invest in a wide variety of securities and financial instruments in the public markets both domestically and abroad.   Investments are made both on securities exchanges, and through over-the-counter and privately negotiated transactions.  We trade in common stocks (from micro cap to mega cap), preferred stocks, corporate bonds, bank loans and other debt securities, convertible securities, ETFs, options, warrants, and cash and cash equivalents.

Our investment objective is to seek superior absolute returns on an average annual basis over a long time horizon.  The objective is met primarily through annual capital appreciation.  However, at times, the majority of returns may come from income generation.

The Investment Process is one where bottom-up, proprietary fundamental research and analysis drive all decisions.  We actively seek to identify securities with limited downside and the potential for substantial upside where a catalyst "event" exists that will help realize the potential upside.   Portfolios are comprised of approximately 15-25 liquid securities.  We do not employ leverage on the portfolio.
